AGENDA:

Happy June! Now's a great time to tap into the academic community to get a better sense of the thought leadership that can help lead our districts in shaping AI in schools successfully. This way we can meet the challenges of next year by building upon the evolving research in this area.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Cathy Adams from the U of A, who, along with Nicole Cunningham (ECSD) will share emergent AI-in-education research being published this summer. Read more below!

This session is grounded in research from the Alberta Research Network Grant on Aligning Generative AI, Ethics, and Teachers’ Values—a collaborative initiative between the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta and Edmonton Catholic School Division. It invites school and system leaders to engage in critical and forward-looking dialogue about leadership’s role in shaping the conditions for ethical and value-aligned AI use in education.

Teachers increasingly use Generative AI tools like ChatGPT to support lesson planning, communication, differentiation, and assessment. For school and system leaders, this rapid adoption raises key questions about how to guide AI integration in ways that uphold professional integrity, relational pedagogy, and ethical decision-making. This session invites school leaders to think critically and collaboratively about how leadership can shape the conditions for responsible AI adoption — ensuring innovation enhances, rather than erodes, the core values of public education.

This test session with our ATLE AI Professional Learning Network also serves as a springboard for our upcoming national presentation at CASSA, where we’ll share our research journey and lessons learned with leaders from across Canada.

Thanks to our AI PLN leadership team for stepping up again to share their journeys within their districts (and beyond) with the group.
